Description
The Beach Flats area of Santa Cruz is located just north of the Boardwalk, and spans about a 9-acre portion of the city. The area is primarily residencial, but has has several hotels (due to its proximity to the Boardwalk) and a few other businesses. In general, Beach Flats tends to be an area of ill repute, due to its higher than-average crime rate and its hopelessly cracked and bumpy streets. However, the area is also a vibrant community, with extensive muraling throughout the area, a
community center, a public
health center and a public park.
History
Community
The Flats have a large Latino/a and Spanish-speaking population, and this tends to be reflected in the types of businesses that reside there.
