| The Name |
| Cabrillo College is named for Jao Cabrillo, an explorer working for Spain. |
| Although working for Spain, he was Portugese. Thus, "Cabrillo" has the |
| "L" sound and not a "y" sound if it were Spanish. According to legend, |
| the name for the college was suggested by Wally Trabling, a newspaper |
| writer. |
