Cowell's beach is located between the Santa Cruz Wharf and the cliff area overlooked by West Cliff Drive and the Santa Cruz Dream Inn. Santa Cruz Main Beach is on the other side of the Wharf from Cowell's.
Surfing
The beach is notorious for having lots of amateur surfers, and local bodegas on Beach Street seem to run a good business renting out surf boards and bodysuits. The waves break long and slow which makes the spot very popular with longboarders, and it has been the site of many longboarding surf contests.
