The Open Studios Art Tour is a self guided tour event started in 1985 as a marketing tool for local artists. It allows the artist to "open" their studios and showcase their creations to the public that would otherwise go unknown because of the limited number of galleries in town to display their work. Plus visitors gets a chance to talk to and learn about the artists themselves.
This is an event run by the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County and sponsored by various local businesses. The proceeds from this event goes back into running this program.
