System Overview

For a listing of routes by destination, see SCMTD Route List by Destination

The primary service offered by Santa Cruz METRO is fixed-route bus service within Santa Cruz County. They also provide paratransit service (called Metro Paracruz), and Highway 17 Express service to San Jose.

[WWW]Fares for riding the bus are:

SCMTD has several transit stations throughout the county:

The "census designated areas" and unincorporated areas of Santa Cruz often have routes running through them, but do not have their own transit stations.

UCSC Routes

If possible, you should use the shuttles operated by TAPS instead of the Santa Cruz METRO. Every time a student steps on a METRO bus, the University is charged a dollar or so, whether they're riding 15 feet on campus, or commuting all over town. The exception is Highway 17, which the Metro charges the students ($4) directly.

UCSC students will be interested in the routes that pass through campus:

All of these routes enter campus through one entrance and exit at the other, making a long loop around campus. Odd-numbered routes go clockwise (entering at the west entrance), and even-numbered routes go counter-clockwise (entering through the main entrance.) All routes except 12 originate at the Santa Cruz Metro Center.

Avoid the 20 if you can. People who live on Western Drive and Westside of Santa Cruz only have the option of riding the 20 to get home.

2009-05-28 08:08:48   There is a big mistake in this Wiki. Highway 17 bus is in fact run by SCMTD but not solely. It is jointly run by SCMTD, VTA (of Santa Clara County) and Amtrak. To state that it is not run by SCMTD is patently wrong. —71.146.3.97
